Project Overview
Situated at the tranquil foothills of Budhanilkantha in Kathmandu, this modern luxury villa synthesizes contemporary minimalist architecture with climate-responsive design. The client requested a seamless flow between indoor living spaces and external landscaped gardens, along with dedicated multi-generational living areas.
We engineered cantilevered concrete slabs, double-glazed low-E glass walls, and locally sourced exposed Shivapuri stone cladding. The building incorporates a 10,000-liter rainwater harvesting system, solar thermal water heating, and high-performance seismic dampers meeting NBC 105:2020 norms.
The Client Brief
Design a multi-generational 5-bedroom residence in Kathmandu with open-plan living, private family suites, double-car basement parking, and an expansive rooftop entertainment deck.
Design Challenge
The site had a steep 18-degree slope facing North-West, requiring custom soil retaining structures and strategic window placement to maximize direct southern sunlight while mitigating winter heat loss.
Design Concept & Solution
We tiered the structure into three cascading levels built into the natural slope. A central glass atrium captures southern winter sunlight and circulates warmth throughout all storeys via passive stack ventilation.
Final Architectural Outcome
Completed on schedule within 14 months, achieving net-positive solar energy generation for heating and receiving widespread architectural acclaim.
